Profile
1969: Studied under Tatsumi Hijikata.
1972: Participated in founding Dairakudakan.
1976: Formed own butoh group Sebi. Producer Ariadone.
1978: Presented Le Dernier Eden - Porte de L’au-dela in Paris, introduced butoh to the world.
2000: Started performance tours mainly in Europe and South America with Edge series.
2003: Started presenting Handsome Blue sky. (Korea Butoh Festival, throughout North America in 2005, thtoughout Tunisie in 2006)
2004: Started Experimental Body.
2006: Premiered “quick silver”, a solo performance, and was invited to the Venetia Biennale Dance Festival.
Ko Murobushi received a Butoh Critic Associataion Award in 2005.
Concepts and Goals
Carrying the torch in the spirit of Butoh, the dance revolution espoused by Tatsumi Hijikata in the 1960's, Ko Murobushi has always stayed on the leading edge of body movement and expression creativity. While continuing to search along this edge in his butoh, he also works on choreography for young dancers and gives enthusiastic guidance to the new butoh generation.
Future Plans
Ko Murobushi plans to tour with his solo piece "quick silver" overseas, and intends to be very active in presenting experimental works with Ko & Edge.
He is also interested in producing collaborative works overseas.
