日本語環境の設定
日本人として、日本語が扱えないのは不便なので、日本語環境の設定をする。
ロケールサポートの有効化
ロケールをインストールする。
# apt-get install locales
locales をインストールすると自動的にロケール設定ダイアログが表示される。
Configuring locales
Locale is a framework to switch between multiple languages for users who can select to use their language, country, characters, collation order, etc.
Choose which locales to generate. The selection will be saved to `/etc/locale.gen', which you can also edit manually (you need to run `locale-gen' afterwards).
Select locales to be generated.

ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP と ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8 を選択する。
Many packages in Debian use locales to display text in the correct language for users. You can change the default locale if you're not a native English speaker. These choices are based on which locales you have chosen to generate.
Note: This will select the language for your whole system. If you're running a multi-user system where not all of your users speak the language of your choice, then they will run into difficulties and you might want not to set a default locale.

ユーザのロケールの設定
ユーザのロケールを設定する。
.bash_profile に以下の内容を追記する。
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 export LANG
日本語の man ページをインストール
マニュアルはできるだけ日本語で読みたいので manpages-ja をインストールする。
# apt-get install manpages-ja
