History / Profile
Mito Arts Foundation was established in 1988. The Foundation-managed Art Tower Mito, consisting of the ACM Theatre, a concert hall and an art gallery, was opened in 1990. The Contemporary Dance Festival in Mito was held from 1994 to 1998. While continuing to present a wide variety of performance events, the Foundation also produces new collaborative work by the choreographer Herv山obbe and dancers from Japan and overseas. Currently the Foundation retains two dance artists.
Concepts and Goals
To create new artistic culture.
Mito Arts Foundation's mission is to develop programs (beginning with music, theater and fine arts) that transcend conventional art fields and spur on the creation and promotion of new artistic culture. With this mission of artistic/cultural exchange and uplift, the Foundation aims to contribute to creation and development within the local cultural sphere.
Future Plans
The Foundation plans to continue presenting exceptional dance work while producing original pieces from ACM Theatre's resident dance artists, and to carry out locally focused educational and promotional activities in the long term. The development of exchange activities through building other networks is being considered as well.
