History / Profile
1991: Session House was founded.
1993: Formed Mademoiselle Cinema, the company-in-residence of Session House.
1995: Started coordinating events for young dancers.
1997: Began Theater 21 Festival Series, open performance events, to present both open and closed performances.
1997: Launched various international exchange projects.
2004: Introduced artist-in-residence programs to support dancers and to promote the program within the dance world.
2005: Received a regional cultural award from the National Accountant Cultural Foundation.
Concepts and Goals

  1. Plan and carry out original programs to support and nurture younger dancers.
  2. Continue to create projects for companies-in-residence and artists-in-residence.
  3. Plan and carry out collaboration works with dancers and artists from overseas, and build networks with Japanese dancers.
  4. Carry out collaboration work with veteran dancers.
  5. Provide training venue, and continuously carry out various kinds of workshops.

Future Plans
Session House wants to promote its programs nationwide, and to carry out tour performances enabling interactive discussions with the public through dance activities.

 

Current and Continuing Programs
Performance:“Theater 21・Fes” series
This well-established program has become a gateway for many dancers success. From 1997 through to September 2006, sixty programs have been carried out and the number of participants has reached over 2,100 artists.
Performance:Mademoiselle Cinema Performance
Formed in 1993, Mademoiselle Cinema presents new and repertory works every year. Since 1998, the group has toured Japan and abroad. In 2006, they worked with choreographers and artists from overseas for collaboration work.
PerformanceWorkshopOutreach:Residence Artist Performance
With its “Raise Up and Out” concept, Session House selects several artists and provides them with the opportunities to offer workshops and to present performances. Session House also carries out workshops at kindergartens and schools to promote dance culture to the public.
Performance:Apple Planning Program
You Decide the Price of Dance - In this program, you can decide the admission fee after you watch a performance. The program was established to create interactive discussions between audience and performers. The best performers can win the chance to coordinate a future performance.
