History / Profile
Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) opened in November 2003.The opening of the Center was accompanied by a performance of [IRIS], the product of a previously initiated international collaborative residency project by Philippe Decoufl・Other performance projects include Angelin Preljocaj and Dumb Type.
The Center has also organized a series of workshops and dance performances by Shigehiro Ide featuring local residents.
Concepts and Goals
Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media is a new type of cultural facility that exists as a communal media technology platform for the pursuit of new creative values in art and information. While probing the new possibilities of media art, video and performing arts, rather than simply presenting exhibitions or performances, YCAM is enthusiastically moving ahead with residency production projects that make use of the center's various facilities for creating new work and also develop a variety of outreach programs.
Future Plans
YCAM is launching new art production projects created using the Center's exceptional video and media equipment. YCAM's programs are developing within a network of international contacts and public performance venues throughout Japan.
