Concepts and Goals
Takeya has set up her own voice & body performance method by interweaving the strategies of the internal formation of one's own inner energy, thus developing a language of her own. And, as a prolific writer she incorporates the thoughts from her journals, dreams, diaries and essays into her performance pieces, ultimately producing an unexpected and visceral fusion of sensory encounters. She thinks rationally and lyrically, with head and body, “eastern” and “western”, in oppositions, combinations, entanglements, sounds, spaces, movements, words and colours. She is a performer between cultures - no longer feeling attached to her Japanese origin, and not yet enough to Europe, her new abode. This tension field between cultures also is mirrored in the ambivalence between the disciplined Japanese philosophy of the Path, and an urban inner conflict. These Takeya tries to bridge in her art, which is shaped by a fascinating fusion of eastern and western influences, her inner world and her integration of the outer world.
Future Plans
Akemi Takeya is working to make her performance, “FEELER”, into a series of solo performances. “FEELER” is an experimental work that explores the relations between physical changes and voice by showing ambivalence, where a person and a material which are both remote controlled. “The Pieces”, her short essays, is also among her activity objectives for the year 2007.

Workshops and Other Activities

  • Body & voice work “FEELER” -internal RE/IN- formation
This training concept is based on the connection of “ breathing technique“ and the perceptive faculties that have become atrophied in civilization; especially the “feelers” of man (like those of insects) should be strengthened. The goal of this work is to immerse oneself in space, and to deepen one's perception to become able to sense an invisible inner energy body.
Participant age, experience or other prerequisites, if any:Open to all.
    Capacity:20 participants
  • Voice & body composition for performers
The object of this work is to examine the relationship between the momentary act and the phenomenological fact of body & voice, which often address issues that are organic and functional. “Sensory awakening” is a core context in achieving an individual aesthetic, which will be reflected in one's own creative work and also integrated as a kinetic sculpture.
Participant age, experience or other prerequisites, if any:Open for dancers, performers and actors.
    Capacity:20 participants
