COMPANY/Buto-sha TENKEI

In 1981, Ebisu Torii and Mutsuko Tanaka left the butho company Dairakudakan and founded Buto-sha TENKEI. Based in Tokyo, they have presented a large number of butoh works.
In 1996, they toured internationally starting with a tour in North America and seven cities in Germany. They have continued to perform overseas every year ever since. Recent major works include Nocturne, Kanata and Jochu-tachi （Les Bonnes）.
Since 2002, Boto-sha TENKEI has been presenting Series Aqueous, a series of small performance works.

Ebisu Torii （direction, choreography and set design） and Mutsuko Tanaka （solo dance） form the base of butoh ensemble Buto-sha TENKEI.
Through their exploration of a body expression, they are creating a dance filled with vital energy and rich in Japanese culture.
Buto-sha TENKEI’s works have a unique quality like a picture book for adults, full of illusion, cruelty and humor, and are referred to collectively as Kioku no Numa no Monogatari （A Tale of the Swamp of Memories）.

Buto-sha TENKEI hopes to perform abroad and in Japan.
