Butoh as a performing art carrying the torch for the traditional performing arts of Japan.
The members of Kobuzoku Altai long to return to the form that performing arts had at the time of its origination.
It must have been something full and overflowing with rough and raw human-animal energy.
Kobuzoku Altai is drumming up mesmerizing new butoh spectacles that draw on the soul and essence of the performing arts that are being preserved (or are disappearing) in modern Japan, such as kabuki, noh, kyogen, karuwaza (acrobatics), manzai, rakugo, ukiyoe, sumo and folk entertainment forms.
