Facility Description:
Its flat space allows adaptable arrangement of stage and seating areas.
The theater is 7.5 m wide x 11.3 m deep x 4.9 m high, with a 2.3 m high mezzanine (2.8 m deep). Seating capacity: 50 - 100 people. Normal stage arrangement is 7.2 x 5.4 x 4.9 m. (Please contact for further details.)
Atelier GEKKEN offers the theater space and its equipment, and also rents theater related equipment such as audio, lighting materials, and their technical staff.

Concepts and Goals
Atelier GEKKEN plans, produces performance works, and presents various performances in Japan and abroad. The organization creates environments where performing arts can be created and presented, and where all the performing arts-related people, audience and local people can meet and communicate. Atelier GEKKEN also distributes information on performing arts from Kyoto to the world. It nurtures artists as well as staff who support artists, and provides young performers with opportunity to learn more. The organization also puts emphasis on educating the audience, and assists artists for self-support.
Future Plans
Aterlier GEKKEN plans to produce dance and theater performances, and create events that involve the local community.

 

Current and Continuing Programs
Performance:GEKKEN Festival
At this festival, invited artists perform based on a common theme. Performances include not only plays but also dance. This is atelier GEKKEN’s biannual independent project, and has been held 5 times so far.
Workshop:GEKKEN Actor’s Labo.
This workshops goal is to nurture performers. It also aims to increase the number of performers’ and to improve their skills.
Performance:Organizing the theater company “merebitono-kai”
Atlier GEKKEN produces “merebitono-kai”, a company presided by Masataka Matsuda, who is a theater directer/play write.
Performance:GEKKEN Dance Selection
Aterlier GEKKEN selects new or young contemporary dancers for this performance event.
