(Participating artists from the field of dance: Shigehiro Ide, Kim Itoh, Chie Itoh, Naoka Uemura, Kuniko Kisanuki, Aki Nagatani, BANETO, Kosi Hidama, Mizuto Abura, Zan Yamashita and others.)
Concepts and Goals
Artists and Children hopes to create opportunities for children, through encounters with artists, to discover their individual qualities and further to take notice of and recognize each other's differences in expression and senses of value. The organization is also interested in exploring the relations between art and school education, and the possibilities of art within the society that children inhabit.
Future Plans
In June 2004, Artists and Children moved its office into a closed-down middle school in Toshima-ku in Tokyo. With this former school as its base, the organization plans new art projects that explore the involvement of art and artists in the local community and let children encounter and experience creativity firsthand.

Current and Continuing Programs
Workshop: ASIAS (Artist's Studio In A School)
In the ASIAS program, artists visit elementary schools and carry out workshop-style classes with the cooperation of the schoolteachers. Projects for each school are decided based on schoolteachers' requests and artists (in dance, music, art, etc.) are coordinated accordingly.
Performance: Making Performances with Children - an NEC/ASIAS Series
Children (chosen from the general public) create performance pieces with artists and then perform these creations, which are hopefully more impressive than their school plays. This series is undertaken as a partnership project between a corporation and a nonprofit organization.
Workshop: Workshops for adults that deal with children.
This program is intended mainly for active classroom teaching staff. Focusing on self-expression and communication abilities, artists lead workshops and discussions regarding the placement of such abilities in present curriculum guidelines.
Other program: ASIAS Activity Documentation
An activity document book detailing the state of affairs in ASIAS classes is published at the end of each fiscal year. This book contains class reports based on classroom exchanges between artists and children and also documents reports from the “Skill-Up” Courses for Teachers. We will publish the new edition in the spring of 2007.
