History / Profile
Kanagawa Arts Foundation was established in 1994, and its Contemporary Arts Series started as a part of the first Kanagawa Art Festival. The foundation coordinates production of performing arts and dance performances. It also presents works of innovative artists from both home and abroad, including Rosas, Willian Forsythe, Jan Fabre, and Saburo Teshigawara. An international collaboration work, Iris, directed and choreographed by Philippe Decoufle, was premiered with the help of the Foundation in 2003.
Concepts and Goals
The mission of the Foundation is to enliven contemporary dance scenes and develop larger dance audiences, by coordinating events of world-class Japanese and foreign artists’ distinctive works and workshops as well as working with promising young energetic artists.
Future Plans
While carrying on the work accomplished up to now, the Kanagawa Arts Foundation hopes to create an environment for lateral exchange and creation among young people and artists working in various fields.
