Job Roles
Mnk (DD/Tank))
With a base Dmg value at D30 without any need of weapons, a desirable DD in Salvage. Basically the same role as in a merit PT. Since the Delay is so short on Hand-to-hand, they have the advantage of quickly engaging mobs (weapon draw motion).
Sam (DD/Tank)
Although you can say that without the Ability and Weapon Cells they will be pretty gimp, the evasion potential from Seigan+Third Eye and the Store TP and Meditate will rock once those Cells are obtained. As a rule of thumb, do not rely on Utusemi. Bosses are do-able with Sam tanks (except Arrapago Remnant) according to some Salvage LS.
War (DD/Tank)
Once the Ability is usable, Provoke is useful. But since the base Evasion and Parrying skills are low to start with (Eva C, Parrying C-) it is strongly advised to use Defender constantly until you get Magic and Support Job Cells, or have constant Phalanx II on you.
Thf (DD/Treasure-Hunter Effect)
As a DD, Thf will be at the bottom of the barrel, but able to Hate control with SA and TA. For the record, Thf damage output on Gears are nothing to laugh about. Treasure Hunter effect will dramatically increase the drop rate of the item drops. At Boss fights though, all they will be doing is feeding TP to the Boss so it is a thought to just keep the Thf on stand-by until SATA+WS is available for a decent spike. Usually the Thf of the Salvage run concentrates on giving out directions/orders since they have the least to do at any given instance.
Drk (DD/Stunner)
Shines as a dmg-source in the instance against regular Mobs and Floor NMs, as well as the Stuns on the side. Absorb-TP helps reduce the number of WS from the Boss.
Nin (DD/Tank)
As afar as Salvage goes, Nin is not a good choice to tank the Boss (Most Boss WS are Shadow-penetrating). As for Floor NMs, Nin will be a good Tank.
Rng(DD)
A good damage source that can match Blm firepower in a short period of time during Boss fights. Wide Scan can be useful from time to time depending what Salvage is done. Shadow Bind can help out in emergencies.
Rdm (Enfeebler/Puller)
Basically functions in the same way as a merit PT situation, although since there are Magic and Sub Job Cells at the entrance of the Salvage instance, they will be pulling at the beginning. Paralyze and Slow for Bosses, everything else think merit PT.
Whm (Healer)
Same as Merit PT situation, flash if u can.
Brd (Buffer/Puller)
The Main puller of the PT. Once you get the Magic and Ranged Equipment Cells they will become extremely busy. They will have to sleep mobs as they come in constantly. Elegy, Tank Songs, Mage Songs, and Threnody is required during Boss fights.
Blm (Boss Nuker)
A must for Boss fights, as a straight nuker (in moderation) and Stunner. Note that this job will only be getting Cells later on in the run. In other words, be prepared to go for a long walk until towards the end. It is advised to come as different job if not doing Boss.
Cor (Buffer)
Basically same as the Brd but Rolls will primarily be for the Tanks. For the Boss fights, Mnk’s Roll is just Godly.
