空間的に散らばったニューロンが同期して，1つの物体を表現．
"synchronicity" coined by Carl Gustav Jung and Wolfgang Pauli
Pauli は人生がつらくなって飲んだくれていて，psychoanalyst の Jung のところところに行きついた．はじめ2年間は医者と患者の関係だったけど，その後，知的な対話をするようになった．で，Pauli の夢をたくさん分析．
synchronicity: "the coincidence in time of two or more causally unrelated events which have the same or similar meaning."
binding by synchrony hypothesis の最も魅力的な特徴は，ほとんど無限の特徴の結び付けを可能とすること．
それに，モダリティ間でも同じようにして結び付けできる．
そのためには，いろんな特徴を表す場所とかいろんなモダリティを表す場所を結ぶ接続が，必要になりそう．だけど，皮質は small-world-like だから大丈夫．
(LFPの)振動の間，時間的に cell assemblies が変わっていって，時分割多重化により図と地とか，いろんなものを表現できる．

動くバーを見せているときの，麻酔・麻痺しているネコのV1の活動を記録．
LFP は 30-60 Hz (gamma-frequency) で振動．各unitの発火は，LFPの谷に一致していたけれど，刺激のオンセットとか刺激の他の特徴とかとの関連はみられなかった．
"The findings provided conclusive evidence that the oscillatory ensemble events emerged locally. The oscillatory dynamics were not directly related to the stimulus but were added on by the brain."

2つのバーに対する反応．くっついていると同期する．
Gamma Oscillations in the Human Cortex
MEG で gamma band の coherence を測ると，起きているときも REM sleep 中も有意に coupling している．このとき，感覚刺激を与えると，waking state では gamma rhythm がリセットされるが，REM sleep 中はあまり効果がない．
Why Is Gamma Oscillation the Right Kind of Buzz?
Gamma oscillation の周期と，STDP の起こる時間差の上限が近い．
