A sickle is a tool for cutting grain, grass, etc. and although it would serve well as a melee weapon than what is being referred to here as the sickle and hammer, the coat of arms of the Soviet Union and Communist symbol represented the proletarian struggle.
ソビエト連邦と共産主義のシンボルは労働者たちの道具の鎌と槌を表しています。本来、鎌は穀物や草などを刈るための道具ですが、彼らには何物に代えがたい武器だったでしょう。
