After more than 5 years of fighting, the Second World War is drawing to a close. Only one major obstacle stands between the Red Army and their ultimate prize: the capital of Germany, Berlin. The remnants of the once mighty Wehrmacht are digging in on the Seelow Heights, a commanding terrain feature overlooking the flat Oder river plains, muddy and flooded in this cold, wet spring. The battle opens to the thunder of 20000 guns pounding the German positions.
5年以上にわたる戦いの末、第二次世界大戦は終結に向かっていた。
赤軍と彼らにとっての最大の名誉、ドイツ首都ベルリンの間に立ち塞がる大きな障害はたった1つであった。
かつては強大であったドイツ国防軍は寒く雨の多い春の天候により水浸しでぬかるんだオーデル川の平地を見下ろせる地形であるゼーロウ高地に塹壕網を構築していた。
戦いは20000にのぼる砲がドイツ軍陣地へ繰り返し砲撃をする轟音によって始まった。

すでにこの時点でドイツの敗北は決定的であり、援軍の見込みはなく到底持ちこたえられる見込みがない中でドイツ軍はソ連軍を迎え撃った。
しかし、この戦いにおけるドイツ軍の用兵は極めて巧妙であり、湿地と化していたオーデル川周辺の地形に苦しむソ連軍は予備兵力も投入せざるをえないほどの損害を受けている。
