Background

Skye Autumn, the elite soldier and over the top confident badass of Santum 1. Assault Rifle in hand and a wry smile on her lips she is known as the one to single-handedly defended the Cores from massive hordes of bioluminescent alien creatures known as Lumes.

Growing up as the army brat daughter to one of the first Core Guardians on LOEK III she was always meant to follow that same path. Seeing her father being celebrated as a hero of the people in Elysion One inspired her to give everything and more during her training. Brought up in the sheltered environment of the Elysion Research Facility she spent all her time perfecting her skills. She cared for nothing except becoming the top ranked prospect in Guardian training. She succeeded. However, right before her graduation, her father was injured during a mission later known as "the Renfield Incident". He died shortly after. Skye’s reaction was violent and she quickly turned from being the perfect student into a merciless, patronizing ass towards people below her skill-level. She also showed little or no respect for authority which could have resulted in having her Core Guardian status removed if not for the fact that she had such raw talent in battle. Her bad attitude is simply tolerated as long as she keeps killing off Lumes for the sake of Elysion One. Skye lives for the adrenaline rush of the perfect kill and enjoys battle as if it was all a game to her. The rumour say her crazed laugh after a successful mission even makes her commanders feel uneasy. Skye herself is very well aware of her bad reputation and makes no attempt to improve it. Why would she?

 

Gameplay

In gameplay terms Skye is very versatile. With her natural ability to double jump she has a very easy time to navigate the maze to get in the right positions as well as fall back when she has to. Skye favours the Assault Rifle, her own trusty weapon. In general she likes rapid fire weapons because of how the Lumes twitch for each hit she scores. She likes it so much, in fact, that she gets a small damage bonus for a few seconds every time she damages a Lume. Once the damage boost is maxed she has a few options. She can either keep shooting and keep the boost at its peak or she can get brutal and finish with a nice Assault Grenade or switch to a hard-hitting weapon for some nice burst damage.

Background

A common slumdweller from the old ruins of Brightholme, Haigen Hawkins somehow managed to reach the position of Core Guardian in Elysion One. Growing up with his mother and siblings in the harsh environment of the slums made life into a constant struggle for food and money. Even with the limited access to education he constantly surprised those around him with his intellect. Haigen was considered to be an unsociable outcast by those around him. His calm and collected personality make him appear very introvert. Working stray jobs around the slums made him able to provide some stability for his family. Whenever he could he'd spend his time collecting and repairing technical gadgets and machines. By a stroke of luck (or fate, depending on who you ask) he happened to be at the right place at the right time. For some reason he received a chance to leave the slums behind and become a citizen of Elysion One, with all the benefits of a true Brightsider. Grasping his opportunity he decided to apply for military service. Despite his lanky body and quiet nature he proved himself to be one of the most promising new recruits in his year. Whether it was the slums that made him stronger or just pure willpower is hard to tell. In any case he climbed to the rank of Core Guardian and was put into a team as a mechanic and close combat soldier. He appears almost bored by everything that goes on around him but he's very observant. Haigen has an obsession to constantly question things and tries to figure out how they work. His primary trait is his incredible intelligence. He outwits anyone he talks to, if he decides to talk that is.

 

Gameplay

Haigen is a close combat brawler. His childhood growing up in the slums taught him to fight his way out of confrontations. Because of this he feels most at home close to the enemy and to complement that his weapon of choice is the Shotgun. Not only does he use a weapon that is very effective at close range, he also gets a massive damage boost when he’s close to enemies! He is also the sturdiest and most resilient Core Guardian on the team, which might be hard to believe judging by his hunched over stature and almost sleepy demeanor.

Sweet Autumn

Background

Imagine Skye as a 19-year old and you're looking at Sweet. Except remove the bad attitude of Skye and replace it with an equal amount of over the top cuteness. Sweet Autumn is oddly creative when it comes to renewing her own appearance and it's not uncommon to find her sneakily tagging other peoples gear with random doodles. Her appearance and behaviour makes it easy to dismiss her as a naïve and harmless girl but then again she is the younger sister of Skye.

Sweet has a fondness of all things that go boom. Loud, flashy and heavy is her way of dealing with Lumes. She rushes into any battle without hesitation and makes sure to have a damn good time while she's at it.

Equipped with her brutal REX and a sturdy exo-skeleton she's ready to withstand heavy recoils and wild leaps through the air. It's not uncommon to see her bouncing around the battlefield like a kid in the middle of a sugar-rush. She might seem careless and easily distracted, and that's exactly what she is. She's still killing off Lumes as if she was custom built for the job.

 

Gameplay

When you play Sweet you’ll notice that she has a tendency to make things explode. Her weapon of choice is the REX Launcher - a reptile looking rocket launcher. The REX has two useage modes, one is to launch high-explosive rockets that can take out several enemies at once. The other one is where things get more interesting. It is a target lock-on that launches missile canisters. These canisters split into several smaller missiles that seek out their target. Sure, they might not damage enemies in as big an area but it’s excellent for single targets. Sweet loads all her weapons with napalm rounds. So all targets that are damaged by her are set on fire and take extra burn damage over a few seconds. If she finds herself in a bad spot rocket jumping is NEVER a bad idea, especially not since Sweet’s equipment has a gravity stabiliser, giving her unparallelled air control. It doesn’t matter if you’re surrounded by Lumes when you have that setup of toys at your disposal.

SiMo

Background

Built to function as a mobile communication device connected to the military base, SiMo accompanies the Core Guardians and assists them. Robotic technology in Elysion One has been developed over several years and SiMo was one of the first models from its batch. It is considered to have developed into one of the most successful units since the SiMo model was introduced as a part of the military. A programmed ability to learn from experience over time means that the longer a robot is used in the field, the more it learns and adapts to situations in battle and social interaction. Because of all its years of service it is able to act naturally around humans despite not having any real emotions itself. It monitors their behaviour and calculates appropriate emotional responses to make sure its team keeps their spirits up or if it wants to it can make them feel really uncomfortable, just for laughs.

Its main function in the group is to guard the Core Guardians and use that sniper rifle which it can wield with excellent accuracy. It keeps track of missions, coordinates and calculates risks, protecting its team like a bodyguard. As if its default functions weren’t enough, Haigen has made some personal modifications to make sure SiMo really has all the abilities the team needs.
To modify a SiMo-unit isn’t exactly legal but the longer the unit stays with the same team, the more loyalty it develops towards its mates. SiMo also acts as a moving sketchbook for Sweet who happens to enjoy drawing and putting stickers all over it. It’s fine with that if it keeps her happy. Androids might not be able to fully understand friendship, but its knowledge of the concept is enough. SiMo can be really likeable if it wants to.

 

Gameplay

SiMo is most comfortable at long range. Its Sniper Rifle is great at distances and is able to deal massive damage to single targets. If the already massive damage of the Sniper Rifle wasn’t enough SiMo gets additional damage when it hits enemy weak spot with any weapon.
Because of its immensely steady robot grip SiMo also reduces the kick of the weapons, effectively increasing its accuracy by a great deal.
Since it deals great amounts of burst damage taking down armored and large targets with SiMo is easy as pie. Not that it eats pie, of course.
