Rockstar/Take 2’s sandbox western ‘Red Dead Redemption’ holds the chart to ransom claiming its second week at No.1 despite a 40% drop in sales.

Which means that THQ’s new entry ‘UFC 2010: Undisputed’ is unable to match the chart topping success of last year’s UFC debut release, slamming in at No2. The next four places have shuffled down one with EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ down from No2 to No3, Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ down from No3 to No4, Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ down to No5 and Disney’s ‘Split/Second: Velocity’ down to No6. Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ bounces back to No7 after a one week absence from the top 10 followed by Ubisoft’s ‘Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands’ stepping up a place to No8. Capcom’s ‘Lost Planet 2’ moves down to No9 and Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ rounds off the top 10 at No10. Outside of the Top 10 we have espionage RPG ‘Alpha Protocol’ from Sega debuting at No13 followed by Activision’s new racer ‘Blur’ at No14 and starting out at No37 is movie tie-in ‘Clash of the Titans: The Video Game’.

07/Jun/2010

Rockstar/Take 2’s wild west ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-22%) takes a third week at No1 on the Entertainment Software (All Prices) Top 40, still way ahead of the chasing pack with sales greater than No’s 2-7 added together.

EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ climbs one place to No2 (-3%) and THQ’s ‘UFC 2010: Undisputed’ (-47%), last week’s big new release drops one place to No3. Ubisoft remain at No4 with ‘Just Dance’ (-3%) and Nintendo also remain stationary at No5 with ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+2%). EA’s Sims career creator ‘The Sims 3: Ambitions’ for PC is this week’s highest new entry at No6. Also debuting this week is Nintendo’s 1930’s puzzle game for DS ‘Rooms: the Main Building’ at No12. Launched last week but making an entrance just in time for the World Cup is Ubisoft’s PS3/360 ‘Pure Football’ (+28%), new on this chart at No36.

Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-34%) holds off video games legend Mario and becomes the first game of 2010 to achieve 4 consecutive weeks at No1.

It was tight at the top with just over a thousand sales between the two, but the critically acclaimed ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ failed to take the top spot in the All Formats chart, settling for No2. As the World Cup begins this week EA’s tie-in ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ (-11%) slides down to No3 followed by Nintendo’s ‘Rooms: The Main Building’ (+76%) which has jumped up the charts from No12 to No4. Two Wii titles are next with Ubisoft’s chart regular ‘Just Dance’ (-27%) at No5 and Nintendo’s fitness sequel ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-33%) at No6. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-27%) remains grounded at No7 for a third week in a row, with EA sim expansion ‘The Sims 3: Ambitions’ (-40%) moving down to No8.

THQ’s fighter ‘UFC 2010: Undisputed’ (-60%) takes a tumble to No9 and Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-37%) is relaxing at No10. Outside of the Top Ten the only new entry to feature was EA’s ‘Green Day: Rock Band’ charting at No14.

It’s a standoff at the top of the All Formats Chart as Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ holds off ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ for another week.

‘Red Dead Redemption’ can now claim 5 consecutive weeks at No1 despite a 24% drop in sales this week, while sales of ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ fall 29% in its second week, extending the gap between the two top-sellers from 1,000 to almost 5,000 units. The World Cup is under way with sales of EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ up 16% this week, however it is not enough to shift it from the No3 spot. Last week, around 50 units separated Nintendo’s ‘Rooms: The Main Building’ at No4 from Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ at No5, however this week it’s ‘Just Dance’ that has the tiny sales advantage as it moves from No5 to No4. ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (-10%) moves up one place to No6 ahead of a price-promoted ‘Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands’ (+18%), which re-enters the Top 10 at No7, up from No12. Other than FIFA, Prince of Persia is the only Top 10 title to gain sales this week. Nintendo’s Top 10 regulars ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-26%) and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-12%) are at No’s 8 and 10 respectively, while Activision’s ‘Blur’ (-5%) shifts back into the Top 10, up from No11 to No9. This week’s two Top 40 new entries can’t make the Top 10 as ‘International Cricket 2010’ from Codemasters debuts at No12 and the critically-acclaimed PSP exclusive ‘Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’ sneaks in at No18.

Developer Traveller’s Tales wave their magic wand again, this time turning the boy wizard into Lego with Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ flying high at No1 this week, giving Warner Bros. their first UK All Formats No1.

This means that after five weeks at the top Rockstar/Take2’s western ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-32%) finally falls off the wagon down to No2. Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ (-42%) and EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ (-36%) also shuffle down a place at No3 and No4 respectively. 505 Games are in at No5 with cheeky title ‘Naughty Bear’ followed by another new entry, Namco Bandai Games’ ‘Demon’s Souls: Black Phantom Edition’ at No6. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ (-17%) therefore misses a beat with a drop to No7 and Activision Blizzard’s new entry ‘Transformers: War For Cybertron’ rolls out at No8. EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ sneaks back into the top ten at No9, which means fellow FPS, Activision’s ‘Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’, is down at No10. Also new in the charts this week is Disney’s ‘Club Penguin: Herbert’s Revenge’ at No18 and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Singularity’ at No38.

Nintendo remain at No3 with Wii ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ (-29%) and EA claim the highest new entry at No4 with ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11’ over PS3/360/Wii. Also debuting strongly at No6 is Ubisoft’s Wii ‘Dance on Broadway’, just ahead of Ubisoft’s perennial Wii ‘Just Dance’ at No7 (+1%). 505’s ‘Naughty Bear’ remains in the Top 10 for a second week, dropping from No5 to No9 (-35%) and City Interactive can celebrate a Top 10 start for ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior’ on 360/PC debuting at No10 (No5 on Xbox 360 FP Chart, No6 on PC Games FP Chart).

Microsoft’s sandbox shooter sequel ‘Crackdown 2’ secures No1, beating the original game’s No2 debut position back in Week 8 2007 and claiming Microsoft’s first All Formats No1 for 2010.

The Xbox 360 exclusive causes Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ to slip down a place to No2 and Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ follows suit, moving down to No3. Ubisoft’s ‘Dance on Broadway’ almost doubles in sales from last week, moving from No6 up to No4 and EA’s ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ holds steady at No5. Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ takes a tumble, down from No3 to No6 and EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11’ gets a bogey also moving down three places from No4 to No7. Ever present Top 10 titles Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ stays firm at No8 and Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ moves down to No9. Thanks to price promotions THQ’s ‘UFC 2010: Undisputed’ wrestles its way back into the Top 10 at No10 and the only other new entry this week is Nintendo’s ‘Pokepark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure’ in at No25

19/Jul/2010

Microsoft’s new and improved, slimmer XBox 360 console, the XBox 360 250GB (or XBox 360 S) achieves the biggest launch in the UK for a “revised” home console, surpassing the launches of both PS2 Slim and PS3 Slim and recording over two days around the same as the original Xbox 360's launch sales total back in week 48 2005.

This is even more impressive when you take into account that the original Xbox 360 was launched across two versions (Pro and Core).

A great week for Microsoft is ensured with the format holder’s XB360 exclusive title ‘Crackdown 2’ holding on to top spot in the All Formats Chart for a second week. A 36% drop in sales is not enough for it to be caught by Ubisoft’s ‘Dance on Broadway’ (-9%), which climbs 2 places to No2, only around 800 units behind ‘Crackdown 2’. Lego Harry Potter’s spell on the charts is slowly wearing off as it drops one place to No3 (-31%), while another previous No1, ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-19%) also slips one place, down to No4.

There is only one new entry this week, Disney’s ‘Toy Story 3’, new at No5, while the rest of the All Formats Top 10 all make way by each falling one place. Microsoft also benefit from retailer price promotions and bundling on ‘Alan Wake’ (+98%) that helps shoot it back up the Charts from No23 to No11. Another retailer promoted title, ‘Bioshock 2’ (+97%) enjoys a similar jump, up from No24 to No12.

26/Jul/2010

Disney can celebrate long and hard thanks to ‘Toy Story 3’ which rises from a debut position last week of No5 to claim No1 this week (+78%).
The game launched on Friday 16th July, ahead of the UK release of the film on Monday 19th July. ‘Toy Story 3’ is already the second highest grossing film of 2010 worldwide and had the highest grossing opening weekend for a Pixar film…all of which helps to explain the huge rise in sales this week and means that Disney claim the overall No1 for the first time since week 22, 2007 (the second week of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’). Rockstar/Take 2 climb 2 places to No2 with former No1 ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-13%) and Ubisoft drop one place to No3 with ‘Dance on Broadway’ (-16%). This week’s lone new entry is Square/Nintendo’s ‘Dragon Quest IX’ for DS debuting at No9, while Microsoft’s 360 exclusive and former No1 for the last 2 weeks ‘Crackdown 2’ drops all the way to No10 (-59%).

Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ at No11 (-29%) is outside of the Top 10 for only the second time in 37 weeks…however the title is fast closing in on the all time unit sales record here in the UK, currently held by a certain ‘Dr Kawashima’ on DS ? more news on this topic in a few weeks.

02/Aug/2010

After 12 years in the making, Activision Blizzard’s real-time strategy sequel ‘Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty’ flies in at No1, which is the first PC exclusive to hit the All Formats top spot this year.

The original game debuted at No24 in the All Formats Chart back in 1998 and wasn’t even the highest selling PC game that week (Lucasarts’ Star Wars Supremacy was). In fact the sequel has sold more this week than the original’s entire UK lifetime sales (only boxed product is accounted for). With no other new entries this week we see Disney’s ‘Toy Story 3’ (-8%), Rockstar/Take2’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-8%), Ubisoft’s ‘Dance on Broadway’ (-11%) and Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ (-10%) all slide down a place to No2, No3, No4 and No5 respectively. Ubisoft’s other dance title in this week’s chart, ‘Just Dance’ (+26%), is up two places to No6 followed by last week’s new entry ‘Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies’ (+27%) which is also up two places to No7.

Activsion Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (+37%) again battles it’s way into the top ten at No8 and Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ (-5%) is at No9. Rounding off the chart this week sees a return to the top 10 for another popular FPS, EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ (+33%).
