言わずと知れた「世界初のRPG」のシリーズタイトルにして、世界で最も売れているTRPGシステム。2022年時点の最新版は『第5版』。
ファンタジー世界での冒険を基本とした、剣と魔法の王道TRPG。小説や漫画作品、コンピューターゲームや果てはMtGとのコラボなどなど手広く展開している。コンピューターゲーム版としてはカプコンによるベルトアクションものなどが有名。
※2022年6月をもって日本語版の展開が一旦終了。ルールは日本語公式サイトで無料公開されている。翌月の2022年7月に本国のWotC主導による日本語版の再展開が決定され、公式サイトもオープンした。
にじさんじ内ではReza AvanlunaとAia AmareがDMを務めており、オリジナルシナリオを回している。
