Early stage: till you have decent number of Rank III heroes

Upgrade priority at the early stage

Fiefdom ≧ Chest and Market (Facilities) = Lodgings (War Reserve) >>> Gears.
You may not want to refine gears in the early stage.

Fiefdom

Just catch up with the opponents you frequently match.
Each upgrade increases the number of heroes that you can deploy. The more heroes you have, the easier it gets to unlock a new hero job. Having more heroes also simply gives you more power to defeat your opponent, as well as giving you wider choices of battle strategy.

tips
During the chest boost event, you might want to spend silver for the facilities while you stop upgrading the fiefdom.

Facilities (Chest and Market)

Chest: Roughly every 35 and 70 levels decreases the time you need to open 24h and 12h chests by 10min (=1Gold). This is the only way to increase gold (via saving gold), which you cannot grind except for spending real money.

Market: It increases the amount of silver in a chest (including Victory Spoils). It wouldn't pay off quickly, but definitely increases the regular income of silver.

Lodgings (War Reserve)

Each upgrade increases the number of heroes that you can hold (not deploy). The more heroes you have, the easier it gets to unlock a new hero job. High level Lodgings is essential when you start thinking about passive skill transfer.

Gears

You don't need to refine gears until you have a decent number of Rank III heroes and Epic gears.

In the early stage, equip a hero with three gears to get Fully Equipped effect. Keep changing to better gears whose total cost is close to the hero’s max equipment cost. See Gear Guide for salvaging and choosing gears.

Fully Equipped effect
An effect that decreases the hero’s deployment cost by 1. You should get used to deploying your heroes with this effect at the early stage, because the number of soldiers is crucial in the battle. See Battle Guidr.
